Rare one-of-a-kind Couture strapless evening dress circa 1949-50. The photo of the painting shows the dress worn by the original owner.
Strapless bodice with skirt fashioned of layers of silk net and tulle with waistband accented by bouquet of silk camellias. Rochas exemplified true originality, spirit and inventiveness in his designs. Beauty and femininity were emphasized and always designed with a look to the future. His pioneering efforts are well documented and, unfortunately, he passed away in 1954 at the early age of 52.
Not many of the French designer's Couture creations can be found. This offering is an excellent representation of one of the designer's 1949 'robe du soir' creations with flowers (camellia) adornment.
