Magnificent, exquisite and rare Norman Hartnell black velvet swing coat embellished with vintage custom beadwork throughout. Coat fashioned of ultra soft lush silk velvet with mandarin collar and adjustable wide cuff bell sleeves. Extraordinary extensive hand embroidered beadwork throughout, in rich colors and shades of turquoise, golds, orange, peach etc. Coat is fully lined and is circa 1950's early 60's. Excellent condition with no wear.
Hartnell's career in designing extravagant and opulent fashion for London society started with Lucile. He went on to open his fashion business in London in 1923, designing lavish grand evening costumes that appeared bigger than life. His ability to create fashions fit for royalty allowed him to receive a commission to design for the royal family of England.
