Issey Miyake inflatable dress

This is the rare "inflatable hem" dress designed by Issey Miyake. According to Miyake's representatives, the designer produced a very limited number of them. This is a sample dress designed specifically for his runway show.

This rare and unusual creation, circa 1993, demonstrates the novel and whimsical approach to haute couture for which Miyake is famous.

Dress is shown inflated. Pump not included.

The dress is fashioned of black nylon and polyurethane, similar to fabrics found in bathing suits. The dress has a built in-star-shaped life preserver. The hem can be inflated, like an inner tube, via a small plastic nozzle situated on the outside top of the inflated hemline. The dress is designed to be worn inflated. Perhaps the designer intended fashionable cruise wear or bathing attire ... with safety in mind...with a built-in life preserver!
