Circa 1960's Norell sleeveless round neck gown in an A line empire waist style. Dress fashioned of antique white silk with handbeaded diamond lattice work pattern with hanging teardrop pearls adorned at neck and throughout gown. Wide ruched crinoline interior at hemline to retain shape. Elongated keyhole back. Matching bracelet sleeve tent style evening coat of same fabric with sleeves with same beadwork pattern as gown. Fully lined.
This is a substantial and weighty ensemble displaying many of Norell's signature tailoring and embroidery details. Norell favored bugle beaded borders with pearl adornments designed in abstract beaded embroidery. His eveningwear creations featured opulent fabric contrasted against style. The result was that his fashions, particularly his elaborate eveningwear and ensembles, showcased a Parisian influence producing elegant and sophisticated clothing for American women. Condition: excellent. Label: Norman Norell for I. Magnin |
