Salon Moderne

Very special evening gown designed by Sophie Gimbel for Salon Moderne at Saks Fifth Ave circa 1947. It was originally designed and custom made for Mrs. Bullock (Bullocks Wilshire).

Vionnet inspired gown fashioned of weighty black silk charmeuse in a chemise style dress consisting of 3 pieces; the chemise dress, sweeping overlay net skirt and cummerbund belt. Bodice of nude silk organza overlaid with leaf pattern appliques. Magnificent sweeping skirt overlay of black net and silk charmeuse with appliques throughout; also has horsehair hemline for body and support. Wide cummerbund belt hooks in back. Madeleine Vionnet designed many of this style gown with applique overlay in the 1930's. This one is 10 years later.

Bust: to 38"; waist: 34"; hips: about 42-44"; length: 60"+

Condition: excellent wearable condition; a few blemishes (tiny snags which are completely unnoticeable) around bodice
