Salon Moderne gown

Circa late 40's early 50's a Salon Moderne creation from Saks Fifth Avenue's custom design atelier. Designed by head designer, Sophie of Saks (aka) Sophie Gimbel. Sophie was highly regarded for her ability to recreate original Parisian designer couture evening wear as well as her own fashion creations. Sophie was so highly regarded that in 1947 she became the first American fashion designer to appear in Time Magazine.

This extraordinary multi color earth tone silk chiffon gown exemplifies the classic extravagant Parisian Couture style of the period. The gown is reminiscent of the noted French designer, Jean Desses. Fashioned of layers upon layers of billowing silk chiffon with fitted ruched halter bodice and open back. Side zipper closure. A rare and amazing custom design from one of the foremost American based ateliers of the period.
